There are few things in life I love more than a delish, satisfying snack situation. Blueberry banana bread is just such a must in the rapidly expanding collection of nanner bread recipes we've got going on here!
You must know there's a boatload of stunning healthy banana breads on my site. We love my OG Legit the Best Gluten Free Banana Bread, Healthy Chocolate Banana Bread (tastes like brownies!), and Bakery-Style Whole Wheat Banana Bread with pb. YUM.
Ingredients
- Bananas: Extra ripe bananas makes the best blueberry banana bread!
- Blueberries: A full cup of fresh blueberries for sweet tart flavor in every bite, just like my favorite Almond Flour Blueberry Muffins.
- Almond flour: This subtly sweet gluten free flour makes everything so moist and lends a cake-like flavor. You'll want super fine blanched almond flour, not almond meal (which has the skins). I get Kirkland brand at Costco, and I've also tested this with Bob's Red Mill brand. Make sure to pack it very well in the cup!
- Oat flour: Another favorite gluten free flour of mine, which adds a milk cookie-like flavor and doesn't taste whole grain. Be sure to use certified gluten-free if you have a gluten intolerance. We're not packing this flour, so just spoon and level it into the cup.
- Honey: You can use raw honey or whatever honey you like.
- Eggs: To bind everything together and contribute to rising.
- Oil: Adds flavor, moisture and richness. Melted coconut oil or avocado oil are my favorites. You can also use canola oil.
- Vanilla extract: to enhance the blueberry loaf flavor.
- Salt: Key for flavor and helps bring out the sweetness.
- Baking soda and powder: for proper rising.
See recipe card for full list of ingredients and exact quantities.
Dietary modifications and substitutions
- Vegan: Use flax eggs. Or try my famous Vegan Banana Bread!
- Frozen blueberries: I recommend fresh here, but yes, you can use frozen blueberries! Just toss in a couple tablespoons of oat flour so they don't sink.
- Sweetener: I've tested this recipe with honey and maple syrup and they both work.
- Blueberry lemon bread: Omit cinnamon and add the zest of 1-2 large lemons, plus ½ tsp lemon extract if you fancy!
- Blueberry coconut bread: Add ½ cup unsweetened shredded coconut.
How to make
Place bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mash well with a fork.
Add eggs, honey, oil and vanilla and whisk until very well combined.
Add almond flour, oat flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt.
Mix with a wooden spoon until just incorporated.
Fold in blueberries.
Pour batter into greased loaf pan.
Bake at 350F for about 1 hour. Cool, slice and devour!
Health benefits
As a dietitian, I love making nourishing snacks accessible and super tasty! This recipe:
- has far less sugar and carbohydrates than classic banana bread and is also made with honey versus refined sugar.
- is packed with brain-boosting healthy fats, antioxidants, energizing whole grains, and fiber.
- is dairy free and gluten free, making them low in cholesterol and perfect for those with allergies.
Storage
The best part about this loaf is that it stays moist in the fridge for over a week.
You can store in an air-tight container on the counter for up to 4 days. Then you can store in the fridge for 1 week or longer.
Freeze cooled bread for up to 4 months, tightly wrapped in plastic wrap and then foil for freshness.
I hope you're as in love with this delish loaf as I am! If you make it, feel free to leave a comment letting me know how it turned out. I'm so grateful for your feedback!

Description
Super moist 1 bowl Healthy Blueberry Banana Bread bejeweled with fresh blueberries that tastes like cake! This delicious quick bread is naturally sweetened with honey, lower in sugar, and made with wholesome ingredients like almond and oat flour. Gluten free, dairy free, and amazing with coffee or tea. Kids love this bread and it freezes great!
Ingredients
- 3 medium very over-ripe bananas
- 2 large eggs
- ⅓ cup honey (or pure maple syrup)
- ¼ cup oil (I used avocado oil)
- 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 1 ¼ cups packed almond flour (163g)
- 1 ½ cups oat flour* (155g)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ cinnamon
- ½ tsp fine sea salt
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350F. Spray a 9x5 in loaf pan with cooking spray.
- Place bananas in a large mixing bowl. You should have 1 ½ cups. Mash well with a fork. Add eggs, honey, oil and vanilla and whisk until very well combined.
- Add almond flour (make sure you really pack it in there when measuring) and oat flour (spooned and leveled). Sprinkle in baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. Mix with a wooden spoon until just incorporated. Fold in blueberries.
- Pour mixture into loaf pan. Bake for about 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes, or until a knife comes out almost clean. Cover the bread loosely with tented foil around 40 minutes to avoid the top getting too brown.
- Allow bread to cool in pan for at least 30 minutes before carefully removing it and transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Can I use only almond flour? I don’t have oat flour
Alexis Joseph, MS, RD says
No, it would be too moist as oats are so much drier than almonds. Do you have old-fashioned oats you can whiz in a blender?
Laurieann says
This recipe looks delicious. I gave it in the oven now !😀.. was wondering by chance for a little bit of added fiber is there a way to add some chopped dates in place of the blueberries.. or even keeping both?
Thank you
Laurieann
Alexis Joseph, MS, RD says
For more fiber I’d add 2 tbsp chia seeds! You could do some chopped dates too, just don’t go overboard with the fruit or else it’ll be too moist. Cheers!

AMAZING!! Thanks, Merve!
Linda says
This is the best blueberry bread I've had. Most blueberry breads have little flavor. This one has a lot of flavor. It came out great and I will be making it again.
Alexis Joseph, MS, RD says
WOW you made my day, Linda! Thank you so much! You must try my double chocolate banana bread next 🙂
Kristy says
So yummy and perfect for meal prep! My toddler loved helping make it as well!
Alexis Joseph, MS, RD says
Awww that's amazing, thanks Kristy!
Aimee says
Can I use whole wheat flour instead of almond flour
Alexis Joseph, MS, RD says
Nope; this recipe was specifically made for almond flour which has way more fat than wheat flour so you can't substitute them. You can make my Blueberry Banana Muffins or Vegan Banana Bread with whole wheat flour.
DOUG says
how much Ground flaxseed-water would you recommend to replace the two eggs?
Alexis Joseph says
Hey Doug, 2 tbsp flax mixed with 1/3 cup warm water is a sub for the 2 eggs. Set aside in a bowl to gel for 5 minutes then add to other ingredients.
Kimberley says
I made this and it’s delicious… I had to cook it longer as my batter was a bit thin…I will put some walnuts in next time..y!
Alexis Joseph says
So glad you loved this one, thank you Kimberley! Yum to walnuts.
Emma says
I made this yesterday and am so impressed with how it turned out!! It is super moist and flavorful - love the balance of banana and blueberry flavors, they work so well together! Will definitely be keeping this one in my regular rotation.
Alexis Joseph says
Fabulous, I'm thrilled you tried it Emma! Thanks for the feedback 🙂
Samantha says
Can I use frozen berries if thats all I have or will it throw off the moisture content?
Alexis Joseph says
Yes! I'd just toss them in a couple tablespoons of oat flour. Enjoy!
Alexis Joseph says
I'm so glad it was a winner, thanks Megan!!
