I, Alexis Joseph, created this blog in 2011 as a sophomore in college hoping to personify my passion for food and nutrition. Little did I know it would bring me to life! Check out my About page for more about me and my story.
Below is a summary of how my recipes go from thought to paper, how I create and maintain content, how I ensure integrity, and how I manage comments. Thank you for putting your trust in me. Cheers!
Recipe Development Process
As a Registered Dietitian with a Masters of Science degree and restaurant group co-owner, I personally conceptualize and test each recipe at least three times (often more to get it just right) before sending it off to my trusty recipe tester friends. After we've all had several trials under our belts, I then share the perfected recipe with you.
My goal is always to create approachable, fun, and nourishing recipes that will come out as delish for you as they did for me. That means noting the details, like which flours will or won't work (almond flour works in mysterious ways!) and if you can indeed omit the eggs and still end up with a fluffy cake. Ultimately, my greatest wish is that these recipes become staples with your own family.
Not only do I love hearing your questions in the comments section, but they're also super beneficial for other readers who rely on comments to guide them before cooking. I urge you to always first check the post body for advice on substitutions I've tested and to then to leave a comment if you're still unsure. If you omit a critical ingredient or make a change I haven't tested, I can't guarantee the results as certain tweaks can dramatically change a recipe. Trust me, I want it to turn out tasty as much as you do!
Maintaining and Updating Content
Integrity in my work and relationships is a value I hold near and dear to my heart. You can expect nothing but accurate, credible, and original content on Hummusapien.
Since nutrition science is still young and ever-changing, I hold myself accountable to keeping up with the latest nutrition research so I can guarantee the information I'm providing you is correct. (I triple check nutrition information calculations to ensure those numbers are as accurate as possible, too.)
In order to provide the best user experience, I am always sharpening my writing, recipe development, and photography skills. Writing was always my first love (did you know my Grandpa authored books on grammar and taught writing classes at the CIA?!) so rest assured there will never be content generated by artificial intelligence on this blog. Only the real [human] deal, here!)
As an avid editor, I am always reviewing older content for opportunities to improve, revise, and stay relevant. Your comments often inform recipe tweaks!
Managing Reader Comments
Truly nothing makes my day more than hearing that you made my recipe. I welcome and publish all comments, positive and negative, because I value making my recipes the best they can be and you as the reader are a huge part of that.
I'm also human and I recognize that not every recipe I post will be everyone's favorite. Constructive criticism only makes me better, which is why I don't remove or manipulate reviews/star ratings that could misrepresent a recipe. If you do leave a negative review, you may notice I'll reply asking if you made any changes to the recipe because I want to help you troubleshoot.
Hummusapien has a strict zero tolerance policy on comments involving harassment, profanity, and abuse. I welcome a healthy discussion, but I don't tolerate blatantly disrespectful comments that aren't constructive. I reserve the right to remove comments that are clearly an inaccurate representation of my recipe, such as making substantial changes and then leaving a bad review. Please check with me before making big changes; I love to offer guidance!
