This beautiful, nourishing Strawberry Beet Smoothie makes a delicious, quick and simple breakfast! Make it in just 5 minutes with a high-powered blender. Packed with fiber and protein!
Maryea from Happy Healthy Mama here! I've read Hummusapien from the beginning and Alexis and I share very similar views on nutrition and life. I am a strong advocate for making plants the main part of your diet.
I also don't take myself too seriously and think it's totally fine to indulge every now and then. I love Alexis for having that same mindset.
When Alexis asked me to share a recipe as a guest, I knew it was perfect timing to share a smoothie recipe!
Ingredients
As written, this recipe makes one meal-sized smoothie or two snack-sized smoothies. And it couldn't be easier to make! I know wholesome ideas for breakfast can be tough.
- Beets: I use raw beetroot that I peel. You could also use steamed beats sold in stores.
- Strawberries: You can use whole strawberries or sliced. If you use frozen, you won't need any ice. I find Target and Costco have the best prices on frozen fruit for the strawberry smoothie with almond milk that I make on the regular.
- Banana: To add creamy texture and sweetness.
- Dates: To naturally sweeten the smoothie and make the smoothie less overpowered by the beet flavor.
- Oats and chia seeds: To add texture, body, and make the smoothie more filling. You can omit them or add in 1-2 tbsp hemp seeds or peanut butter like in my PB&J Smoothie!
- Water: To help blend. You could also use almond milk, but I find water is most refreshing in this smoothie.
Can you taste the beets?
The strawberries and banana help mellow out the beets, so while you can taste the beets, they aren't overpowering.
I love beets, so I'm glad you can taste them some, but don't worry if you're one who isn't so keen on them. You should still try this one!
Beet health benefits
Will you just look at that color?! Just like my pink Strawberry Pineapple Smoothie, plant foods are so gorgeous.
That vibrant color means you're getting some serious health benefits. Beets aren't exactly typical smoothie food, but what a great way to get more powerful phytonutrients into your body!
- Fight inflammation
- Anti-cancer properties
- Support detoxification in the body
- High in fiber
- High in folate
- High in vitamin C
- High in potassium
What blender is best?
My Vitamix blender is powerful, so I use raw beets. A Nutribullet also works.
If yours is on the wimpy side, I would recommend cooked beets. You can find cooked beets in the produce section of most grocery stores these days.

Hi Alexis,
The smoothie looks delicious but I was looking for the calorie count. I would be grateful to you if you provide me the count.

How about the calories? How many calories does this smoothie have? I’m a little cautious about my diet since I’m aiming a little calorie deficit these days because I’ve grown a little because of stress and some heavy work loads. So please can you enlighten me regarding this matter? Thank you so much! And I hope to try this recipe very soon!
