It’s been a hot minute since I shared what a typical day in the craztastical life of Hummusapien looks like.
Balancing this blog and my full-time job only gets harder each month as the blog grows, so in all honesty, life hasn’t really calmed down since Alchemy opened nine months ago. That said, I’m more settled into my role and can better balance my time these days. Once or twice a week I schedule myself an “admin” day for Alchemy where I work on behind the scenes stuff that doesn’t involve me interacting directly with staff and customers. These days are fab because I can have more of a normal schedule, AKA not having to be there at 6am. Winning! Sleeping!
Without further adieu, here’s a peak into a typical Tuesday!
5:10am: Hop out of bed (more like roll….), throw my hair in a lopsided ponytail, and head on over to a 5:30am Body Pump class. I typically take Body Pump at 6:30pm on Tuesdays, but I had a Good Day Columbus news segment to prepare for yesterday night so I wanted to get my workout out of the way in the morning. Be sure to tune in today at 8:45am!
6:45am: Stop at the grocery store to pick up ingredients for the segment plus a couple random items. I got cherries (super on sale!), mini peppers, Wholly Guacamole mini packs, almond milk, avocados, frozen corn, cilantro, and bean burger toppings.
7:15am: Put away groceries, send a few emails, schedule two Facebook posts, start writing this post, and whip up a post-workout smoothie. This blend had 1/2 cup frozen strawberries, 1/2 cup frozen blueberries, 1 cup frozen spinach, 1 1/2 cups almond milk, 1 tbsp raw cacao powder, and 1 scoop Vega One protein + greens topped with cacao nibs and Love Grown Power O’s. I ate it with a spoon in the Nutribullet cup since all the big bowls were in the dishwasher. Fail whale.
Protein was majorly on sale at Whole Foods Upper Arlington so I snagged a new one to try! I much prefer the taste of my usual Skoop brown rice protein, but Vega has more protein per scoop so I like to use it for muscle recovery after a workout.
7:45am: Shower and get myself ready for the day! Pack loads of food for lunch and thank the heavens above for food prep.
9:15am: Meet at Stauf’s coffee shop to talk about making Alchemy operations more efficient. Sip on half caff iced coffee with a splash of soy.
10:30am: Realize that the iced coffee was definitely fully caffeinated. Feeling like my heart is going to pop out of my chest. Work on a menu proposal to start long-term catering with a local health care company. Snack on a bag of mini peppers + the cutest guacamole followed by baked sweet potato slices + Oasis butter bean dip.
11:30am: Head to Kinko’s to laminate a million checklists and recipes to help staff with efficiency on the floor and cleaning duties. How fun! Stop at Target for envelopes, clipboards, and dry-erase markers.
1:00pm: Interview an awesome chick about working at Alchemy and doing some graphic design work. Hire awesome chick.
1:30pm: Chat with Alchemy staff about implementing new operational procedures. Make sure everyone and everything on the floor is functioning as it should. Email glass bottle distributor to see if we can order 2oz vials for juice shots.
2:00pm: Shove lunch in my face (cauliflower fried “rice” with carrots, peas, onion, mushroom, zucchini, eggs, a bit of sesame oil, and soy sauce + a bunch of cherries. Get pits all over the table. Feel embarrassed.
2:30pm: Re-do Alchemy’s recipe archives/checklist binder (AKA the Bible) and threaten that if anyone messes it up, I will surely have a heart attack. Kidding. But not really.
3:30pm: Meet with distributor to chat about new salad/acai bowl packaging needs and ordering bulk nuts and frozen fruit. Place orders for Friday delivery. Teach assistant manager how to place orders online so I can focus on the million other things I need to focus on. Snack on a savory vegan zucchini muffin. Realize we desperately need bananas.
5:30pm: Head home and add to this post. Sit on the couch and realize it was a short day at Alchemy. Start to feel the tiredness set in from waking up over twelve hours ago. Change into comfy clothes.
6:00: Reheat the vegan summer vegetable lasagna rolls that I made for an upcoming blog post plus roasted broccoli. Once again, thank God for food prep because I’d totally be eating something frozen if I hadn’t cooked on Sunday.
6:30pm: Make avocado bean burgers for today’s news segment. Prep everything I need to bring (cutting board, chopped veggies, buns, knives, toppings, etc.)
7:30pm: Finish writing this post. Check social media. Email a couple companies about upcoming blog posts. Eat another lasagna roll.
8:00pm: Phone a friend to plan my bestie’s upcoming bachelorette party.
8:30pm: Practice for tomorrow’s segment. Eat two no-bake black bean brownies straight out of the freezer while gulping almond milk straight from the carton. SO GOOD.
9:30pm: Peruse packaging ideas online for future Alchemy locations. So many bowls. So many straws.
10:00pm: Hop into bed and try not to think too hard about the segment. Wishful thinking!
You are superwoman. I love watching you grow–your blog, your business, everything. Very inspiring. Keep on rockin’ it.
That is the ultimate compliment, coming from you, Maryea 😉 Thanks love!
You are one freaking busy lady! Hope the segment went well this morning!!

Does it wear you out eating so often…I know every ones different but it just seems like it would get in the way of everything else you do. Is that just on Wednesday though.
I’m so used to eating all the time/grazing so it doesn’t really wear me out. I’ve never been some one who just eats three meals. I’m a constant snacker so I’m always armed with food!
