    What I Ate Wednesday

    Published Jul 19, 2017 · Modified Apr 15, 2019 · by Alexis Joseph · 11 Comments

Oh hey new friends!! It’s Natalie and I’m back to share a deelicious day of eats with you lovely people!

Today was my day off work and I just didn’t feel like cooking, so eats were definitely less than exciting. Instead of showing you ugly smoothie bowls and leftover salad, I thought I would take you back to more adventurous times when I was in Brazil and spent my time hiking instead of hanging out at home with my dog.

At the beginning of the summer, I got the amazing opportunity to go to Brazil as part of a cultural exchange program with 19 other people. We spent six weeks in the city of Florianopolis where we went to a couple different college campuses to meet other students and create friendships with the end goal of building a community on campus. Brazilians are the friendliest people and the views weren't too bad either. Feast your eyes, people!

Six weeks was a long enough time for us to really settle into a new culture, which I loved because I’m the kind of person who THRIVES off routine. Give me a schedule and a checklist and I’ll love you forever so I felt really hashtag blessed when some of my friends wanted to start a morning workout group. Instant routine! We did a workout video every morning before heading down to the breakfast room to eat together.

The fresh fruit in Brazil was INSANE. It was so fresh and tasted way different from the fruit that we have in the states. LOVE. I had a plate of fruit like this every day along with some scrambled eggs that I moved before taking this picture because they weren’t quite as photogenic as the papaya.

After breakfast, we headed to the university down the street from our hotel to hang out with some Brazilian friends. It was raining like woah and when it rains in Brazil, students don’t even bother going to class (smart people), so after sitting in a campus cafe for a couple hours, we set out to find a lunch spot.

I loaded my plate with fresh veggies, my favorite lime dressing and some grilled chicken. I definitely went back for more fruit when I finished because I couldn't get enough!

On weekends we went on adventures where there wasn't as much food around so we would have acai for lunch! The coconut on top of this bowl makes it look a little less than cute but I'm going to overlook that because that VIEW.

After lunch time hangs, we decided to leave campus and headed to our favorite indoor market. We cozied up with some kombucha and the BEST almond milk lattes. This market was the only place I found almond milk in all of Brazil so it was true love from the start!

A few people from our team made us fajita chicken with veggies for dinner which I forgot to snap a picture of. The lighting was horrid so consider yourselves lucky!

After dinner we took an uber across the moutain to our favorite cafe. We sat on the covered porch and read books while we listened to the rain. I split this cute little acai with a friend and it was the perfect way to end the night!

See you next month with another day of wonderful eats!

Fresh fruit in a tropical country is absolutely amazing. There's just something incredible about the bounty of that delicious fruit straight from a tree not far away. I bet they picked it when it was pretty much ripe.

Travel food is always so much better! Even if that acai bowl is "a little less than cute", it looks super yummy!

Gosh, so envious of all the food you had in Brazil. Well, envious that you got to visit Brazil in the first place - it looks amazing!
