Hi, hummus lovers!
My name is Simi. I am an attorney turned health coach helping women nourish their bodies and nurture their lives so they can live fully. I live in German Village my my husband (Tim), our two pups (Harry + Ollie), and our new baby boy (Alyosha aka Osh).
I am also Alchemy Juice Bar’s #1 fan (DUH!).
I was so excited when Alexis invited me to hang with you all here today while she’s in San Fran to talk about one of my favorite topics… FOOD!
My approach to food is pretty simple: ditch the outside diet rules, learn listen to your body, and eat in the way that makes you feel your best. I think that how we eat is just as (if not more!) important than what we eat; so I always try to think of eating as an act of self-care (rather than a way to deprive, manipulate, punish, or fix myself). I focus on filling my fridge, plate, and belly with foods that make me feel great, taste delicious, and work for my lifestyle. This is always changing, so I try to stay open and in tune with my needs on a daily basis.
Right now, with a 2-month-old baby, having energy to take care of him, make it through sleepless nights, and run my business are top priorities. That means lots of healthy fats and tooonnnnnsss of water. I feel like I’m constantly breastfeeding him or holding him, so I also need to be able to throw together and eat almost everything with only one hand!
Also… COFFEE. My favorite food group. 😉
Today I’m sharing my eats (and my coffee) from Monday. Hope you enjoy!
5:45 AM: wake up + lay in bed and feed Osh while I chug 32 oz of water. Finish the water and wonder… how am I still thirsty?
6:20 AM: go to the kitchen, make an Americano with 2 shots of espresso, hot water and lots of cashew milk. Finish the coffee and wonder… is there more coffee?
6:45 AM: take a family walk in Schiller Park before Tim goes to work.
7:30 AM: get home, hang with Osh, and eat breakfast! I get on breakfast kicks and right now I am obsessed with cutting up an organic apple, sprinkling it with pumpkin pie spice, and dipping it in an aggressive amount of nut butter (Monday was pb, but I don’t discriminate). I also drink more water.
8:15 AM: head out with Osh to Studio B Wellness to take a barre class. My favorite way to workout! Water was definitely consumed during class.
10:45 AM: get home from work, take a quick shower, and feed Osh again. Drink more water.
11:15 AM: I take down a few homemade protein bites straight from the freezer. I made these with almond flour, almond butter, coconut oil, flax seeds, chia seeds, Vega One vanilla chai protein powder, cinnamon, and carob chips. I probably would have eaten 10,000 but these were the last of the bunch!
11:30 AM – 5 PM: our awesome nanny Brigette comes to the house to hang with Osh while I have client sessions! In between client sessions I come down from my office to sneak in baby snuggles and feed the babe.
2:45 PM: throw together a quick lunch plate with wild salmon, one organic egg, veggies, kimchi, and sooooo much hummus (can’t get enough).
5 PM: finish with clients, feed Osh again, and get ready to go teach barre!
6 PM: teach barre at Studio B Wellness – I love this Monday night group!
7:15 PM: get home just in time for fam dinner! Tim had acorn squash with curried chickpeas ready (I am always SO hungry when I walk in the door!). I eat it while Osh nurses. I may or may not have gotten a little curry on his onsie (oops).
8 PM: in pjs, in bed, with all the boys. My favorite part of the night is when all five of us snuggle up together!
9:30 PM: passed out (but don’t worry… Osh had me up a few hours later to party).
Alexis here scrambling to get this post published before I pass out—but isn’t Simi the BOMB?! Ugh I am wildly obsessed with this girl. <3
