I live in my kitchen.
Are your surprised?
If there was room for a bed, I’d probably sleep there. It may be teensy weensy and I may not be able to open the dishwasher and the trash cabinet at the same time, but I love it more than any other room in my apartment.
It’s my happy place. It’s where I do what I love for the people I love–creating nourishing, delish food. So I’d like to take a moment to thank five special people (errrrr appliances) that I hold near and dear to my hummus heart. I surely wouldn’t be where I am today without their unconditional guidance and love. They make my job a helluva lot easier! Since I focused so heavily on easy, accessible recipes for my partnership with Kohl’s #MakeYourMove campaign, I thought this was the perf opportunity to share the kitchen props that make those recipes a reality. Lettuce begin!
I use my Nutribullet every single day without fail. If you’ve ever read a What I Ate Wednesday post, you see my daily smoothie whipped up in this magical machine. I recommend it to all my clients because it’s super affordable, easy to clean, and will blend up pretty much anything–nuts, seeds, frozen fruit, whatever. I use it to blend oats into oat flour, to make cashew cream, to blend soup, and of course to make smoothies. In case you don’t understand my love for this appliance, know that I have a blender that costs five times as much as the Nutribullet and it’s been sitting in my closet for months.
I use my baking mat for nearly everything, from flourless cranberry chia cookies to roasted sweet potato slices. It makes clean up a breeze and it’ll save you loads of cash on parchment paper or tinfoil. That’s a gift in itself!
I don’t know if this technically counts as a kitchen gadget…but I know that I use these things all the time. Glass is everything these days. You can store food in them, microwave them, bake with them, dishwash them, and eat out of them without worrying about chemicals from plastic leaching into your food. I love packing up leftovers for lunch in the round Tupperware knowing I can microwave them in the same container later. Say no to microwaving plastic! I use the rectangular containers to store everything from muffins and veggie burgers to enchiladas and baked spaghetti. These things are my LIFE.
Next to my beloved Nutribullet, my food processor is my second most used kitchen gadget. While a blender and a food processor may seem similar, there are lots of thing you can’t make in the blender, like veggie burgers, no-bake bites, salsa, lentil loafs, etc. Finely chopping is very different from blending. If you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, this will be one of your most used kitchen gadgets, guaranteed.
There’s nothing like a good mixing bowl, my friends! I love these bad boys because they’re durable, good looking, dishwasher safe, and…not plastic. These will last and last, plus they look nice on the counter. Win!
