Hummusapien home lovers! Where you at?

It's crazy how much I've fallen in love with everything home. I used to spend hours looking at salads and sandals and jackets and now it's all writing desks and vases. WHO AM I? But seriously, discovering a new passion buried within me has been so refreshing. I've learned that I really love all things stylish---food, fashion, home decor...I'm in.
Good news! There's now a Fashion and Home Decor tab under my Lifestyle heading so all of those posts will live in one space.
We bought our home last July and a ton has changed since then. As you know, we did some renovating, including redoing the kitchen, getting all new hardwood floors on the first floor, and knocking down a wall to open up the living area. So, what's next? Anything and everything, because I seriously find myself craving new home projects.
I plan on redoing our master bath upstairs since it's pretty outdated, but since it's connected to a larger area that's pretty much dead space, we're waiting to nail down our vision in its entirety rather than being hasty and updating solely the bathroom. The plan is to make the first part of it another closet (since I've pretty much taken over the one we have, oops), make the open area an office for me (I already bought this amazing writing desk and chair!) and then make the rest of the space the updated bathroom. I'll keep you posted on that project!
Now let's chat about the downstairs bathroom. When we moved in, they had given it some love, but it had a ways to go. It had some pretty outdated vanity lighting. The left side of the below image is what it looked like when we moved in. Not terrible! The right side is after we painted it.
Side note---this bathroom is pretty dark and awkwardly shaped so photographing it was no easy feat. I had to use a mix of my camera and my iPhone to get different angels so forgive the less than fab photos!
PAINT
First, we painted the drab gray walls with Sherwin William's Bohemian Black, which is an amazing black color with blue undertones that I adore. I love how the sharp contrast with white siding. I plan on painting our front door Tricorn Black, which is another fab dramatic color if you're looking for a blacker black.
LIGHTING
I fell in love with this gold Ganador 4-light vanity light to replace the outdated fixture. To replace the mirror that hung below, I chose this rustic yet elegant Duke rectangle accent mirror, which I did horizontally. I love it because it has a nice edge and gold finish to it. I was a little worried about the silver faucet clashing with the gold accents, but it actually works so well. I like the contrast!
ACCESORIZING
Rugs, rugs, rugs! I can't say enough how important rugs are for bringing spaces to life. I'm really big on contrast, both with colors and with textures, and rugs are a Godsend in this department. I found this floral blue gem at TJ Max for $40 so unfortunately I don't have a link, but I love how it ties in the walls. You'll likely want a 2'x3' if you have a smaller bathroom. If you have light wood and more space, I adore this white rug and this pink rug. The white one we have by the shower is just a cute little white dotted line bath rug.
Fake plants. There, I said it. I have a gazillion real plants in my house but there's a time and a place for a flant (fake plant) and a dark bathroom is most definitely that place. Target's flants are SO GOOD. Go small for these guys. I have this black one in our bathroom and this white one in our bedroom. I also love this cactus and this snake plant from West Elm (on sale!). You could even do a faux leaf in a glass vase. You'd never know they weren't the real thing, you don't have to water them, and they're immortal. They add much-needed life to the space. Tip: add a little soil to the top to make it look even more real!
Wall decor! I found this precious pineapple print and it was love at first sight. It adds brightness and color and FUN. Lasty, this brass soap dispenser added the perfect feminine touch.
My mom has taught me a lot. But when I think of accessorizing, I especially think of her. Growing up, she was more concerned about me wearing a cute necklace ("do you want to borrow mine?") than me remembering my lunch box. I kid, but seriously, the woman's got a knack for styling. For always being put together. It's in my blood!
I love how this bathroom, this house, is so me. Every time I walk in, I can't help but tell our home how much I love it. What a feeling!
Have a wondrous rest of the week, friends.

Hi, Thank you so much for coming to me at the right time. We are shifted to our new home next month. So I need to organize my new bathroom. I found here some useful tips about bathroom organization. Already bookmark this site for future reference.

Great to see your bathroom decoration. Painting and lighting really claim hardly for appreciation. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
