This healthy Gingerbread Smoothie is creamy, decadent, and packed with protein, fiber, iron, calcium, and a secret ingredient.
My love affair with ginger is no secret.
There is a very special place in my heart for this warm, spicy, anti-inflammatory root. I love it in the morning and in the afternoon. I love it in the evening and underneath the moon!!
My grandma used to sing me that song when I was a wee chickpea and now I sing it to ginger. I kid.
But really, guys...when the question is ginger (or chocolate, or hummus, or avocado, or hot sauce, or peanut butter) the answer is nearly always a resounding "YES!" And when the question is ginger PLUS chocolate, I need to have a seat because honestly I might faint from the greatness.
When I heard the news that my longtime favorite lip balm company was coming out with plant-based protein shakes, you can imagine my joy. If you're anything like me, you've been lathering anything and everything Burt's Bee's all over your bod since you learned what beauty products were. Well guess what? Their new line of protein shakes are just as good if not better!
It's the kind of protein powder that you really don't even notice because it tastes so dreamy and blends in so well to the smoothie. It's made with protein from peas, brown rice, sunflower seeds, oats and flax seeds plus vitamin extracts from fruits and veggies , organic cocoa (in the chocolate flavor), 25% of the daily value of a bunch of vitamins and minerals, and some antioxidants for that healthy glow we're all dying for.
Non-GMO. No gluten. No dairy. No soy. No artificial flavors or sweeteners. No problem, yo!
This smoothie is a recipe for creaminess thanks to a) frozen banana, b) cashew butter (I love the mild butteriness but almond butter is fine, too) and c) frozen cauliflower. I know it sounds crazy pants but trust me, it bulks up the smoothie in the best way possible without a trace of the flavor. My advice is to buy the pre-frozen florets rather than freezing the fresh stuff. I put it in my smoothies every day!
Let's all thank the heavens that it's juuuust after the new year meaning we can dunk 89 million gingerbread women in this smoothie and still feel amazing.
