This refreshing and creamy Lemon Blueberry Smoothie is packed with nutrients for the perfect replenishing post-workout smoothie.
We’re all wearing face masks thanks to Ohio’s sub-arctic temps yet here I am posting a lemony bloobalish smoothie.
What can I say…I’ve got spring fever on the brain!
This smoothie was inspired by the hugh jass one I’ve been making on the regular for myself and the lovely boyf with frozen blueberries, frozen pineapple, fresh banana, frozen spinach, power greens, frozen cauliflower, beet, avocado or peanut butter, cinnamon, turmeric (plus a grind of black pepper for absorption), and almond milk to blend. It makes around five cups and we look quite forward to guzzling down a gazillion servings of fruits and veggies before it’s even 9am.
The issue is that I’ve also been wanting to guzzle said smoothie after a sweaty workout. To smoothie or not to smoothie? I’ve never been one to say no to a surplus of fruits and veggies…
If you watch my instagram stories, you know that a) my tea made the most incredibly magical puffs of steam yesterday morning and b) I’m a walking Simple Truth advertisement because legitimately 90% of my cart is Simple Truth every time I grocery shop. I developed a bunch of recipes for Simple Truth and visited their headquarters in Cinci way back in 2014, so both Kroger and Simple Truth hold a special place in my heart. I love that I can be confident that any product under the Simple truth name is one I can trust, one that’s totally affordable, and one that’s tasty to boot!
Lately I’ve been using Simple Truth Lemon Electrolyte Water in my post-workout smoothie for a refreshing little electrolyte boost. It’s super delicate and not at all overpowering in flavor like some flavored waters can be. Of course what I love most is that it has zero sugar and also zero artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. Did I mention it comes in a huuuuge 33.8oz bottle of 100% recycled plastic that’s a fourth of the price of the national equivalent?
So why are these electrolyte guys important, anyway? Electrolytes (think potassium, calcium, and magnesium) help regulate fluid balance in the bod. When you lose electrolytes through sweat during exercise, this imbalance can lead to nausea, muscle cramping, and even mental confusion. Long story short…hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! If you’re working out intensely for over an hour, you’ll likely need to to replace these minerals.
I’m obsessed with the little zing (and vitamin C!) that a squeeze of fresh lemon juice adds to this smoothie. Paired with the fresh ginger, it’s seriously a match made in my smoothie dreams. In a pinch, I’ll use organic bottled lemon juice and minced ginger. No shame in convenience, people! Do what ya gotta do.
While this smoothie tops my list of favorite post-workout bevvies, I assure you that it makes a delish breakfast or afternoon pick-me-up as well.
